We all know the saying…”When life gives you lemons – make lemonade!”. Sometimes that is easier said than done. For me, starting from an optimistic viewpoint is helpful.
During the recession myself and my husband both lost our jobs. Yikes!! I know that almost everyone can relate to some recession woes and was likely also affected one way or the other.
I did find several ways to make lemonade during that time, and one included developing the website Pet Friendly PDX. I gave myself a job! It was a way to keep myself technically challenged, to have something productive to do related to my career, and to give back to the community. The website was developed as an offering to anyone who loves or has animals and to the organizations that support them.
I am an animal lover and volunteer at our local animal shelter. Seeing the numerous reasons that people surrender their pets motivated me to help people find resources that might allow them to keep their pets. So with this site you can find behaviorists, pet food banks, low cost vaccines and much, much more. Creating the site involved hours of research as I first collected the information, and then of course many hours to present the information in a useful manner on a website.
So life is pretty much back to normal these days, and I still maintain the website because it serves as a benefit to those in the community with pets and helps promote the organizations that support animals.
Check it out sometime especially if you have pets at home…
Oh and for those who are interested…this site is a hybrid of plain HTML and a WordPress site. I initially created most of the site using HTML and php. Then created a WordPress custom template to match the site – and that is where the more dynamic information is published (under the “featured pets” link: http://petfriendlypdx.com/wp/featured).
